Virgil Abloh, the designer behind Off-White and Ronnie Fieg, founder of Kith, are joining together to create “Off-Palette,” a capsule collection that will blend both parties aesthetic sense of style.Virgil Abloh, who is known for making streetwear a luxury item with his brand Off-White, is teaming up with Ronnie Fieg, founder of the store Kith which is known for its high end athleisure and sneakers. Both men have similar approaches to fashion and cater to the same type of consumers, those that seek streetwear looks with a brand name attached.
Abloh first gained recognition as Kanye West’s creative director and later lent some major inspiration for his Yeezy lines. Abloh is known by his signature bold white diagonal lines placed against solid black, with his label placed strategically across the back. Evident in his FW17 collection, he has seemingly matured and stepped away from the logo crazy trend and adopted a more sophisticated look. While still maintaining his streetwear aesthetic, the clothes seem to be sleeker. Mixing graphic patterns, plaid, and chiffon silk, with cropped jackets and more flowing pieces.
Ronnie Fieg, who went from merchandise buyer to sneaker designer to the founder of a major high end retail brand. He developed Kith from a sneaker store, where Fieg himself did the buying as well as some designing; into a major in-house apparel brand. Similar to Abloh, his approach to fashion has a heavy emphasis on streetwear culture. His expansion from sneakers to apparel demonstrates a shift in the fashion world that has moved from elaborate designs and chic-ness to more comfortable, culturally inspired trends.
As of right now, Abloh and Fieg are featuring Aleali May as their main model for the collection, who like Abloh, is a native of Chicago. Aleali herself is a Business Marketing graduate from Columbia College in Chicago, who has developed her image from blogger to model to major fashion influencer.
As for the actual collection itself, “Off-Palette” is the obvious brain child of both Abloh and Fieg. Present in the line are oversized hoodies and T-shirts, perfect for spring as they dote soft pastels. All of which are completed with logos and co-branding, significant to both men’s signature appeal. Each item comes together beautifully, with the respected designer’s influence working symbiotically together.
The collaborative capsule meshes both Abloh’s branding with Kith’s colors for the SS17 season, that is meant for both men and women. Aleali brings a classic cool vibe to the shoot that only enhances the appeal of the clothes. The soft colors in contrast with her medium olive skin tone and dark hair work together against an asphalt back drop.
While this is a limited release (hence the term “capsule”), here’s to hoping for many future collaborations between Abloh and Fieg.
